New for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is once again around the corner and this year, in an effort to narrow down my jewelry collection to items that showcase my best and most unique skills, I am offering all new items. These ones happen to feature a technique called caning. Please check out my Mountain Scene Cane post if you’re curious about the process.

These three sets are all made in the same heart shapes, each one with a different image. The glittery repeating hearts design is a classic Valentine’s Day pattern done in darker, more sophisticated colors. The iconic reflecting cityscape, my personal favorite, is great for couples remembering a special location such as where they met. And the mosaic/stained glass set, done in translucent pastels, symbolizes the idea that your heart doesn’t have to be unbroken to be beautiful.

I think they are all subtle enough to wear throughout the year, and I also have a lot of floral sets available, which are perfect for the occasion and for Spring. And finally, for those hard-to-shop-for men in your life, I have a selection of cufflinks and tie/lapel pins featuring animals and landscape designs.

Shopping for romantic gifts can get a bit cliche at times – not that that’s the worst thing, I’d say love is allowed to be a little cheesy – but buying handmade is a great way to find something different.

Please visit NoelleLewisArt.com or Pastiche Accessories on Etsy for more details on each item, and feel free to use coupon code “BETTER2GETHER” for $5 off any matching set. Have a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Two Peas in a Pod Crochet Pattern, and Why I Love “Bones”

I seem to have fallen in love with another TV show. This happens often, to the point where I feel like I am losing real friends when a show ends forever (don’t judge me).

But this one took me by surprise. Being very much NOT a horror fan, I never expected to like a show called “Bones” full of murder and bodies and guts. But the characters are just so uniquely interesting that by the second or third episode I was hooked.

Maybe I feel like some of them understand me because I, too, am socially awkward. Maybe I love Zach’s nerdiness and Angela’s big heart and even Camille’s sarcasm. Or maybe I just want to see Brennan and Booth finally admit their obvious undying love, because I love seeing two people drive each other crazy but also make a great team.

Whatever the reason, I look past the gory details and enjoy the show, usually with a project in hand. The latest one was a crochet pea pod, or two. Not sure what to do with them, but they’re just so cute.

I modified a pattern I found {here} to make two peas instead of three and give the pod a little more shape.

Edit: Here’s my version of the pattern. I’m pretty new at actually writing down my patterns/modifications so please let me know if anything doesn’t make sense!

Two Peas in a Pod Crochet Pattern
I used Lily Sugar n Cream cotton yarn in Sage Green and Hot Green with my 3.75mm hook (I think! They recommend a 5mm but I like my stitches pretty tight).

For the peas, follow the pattern in the link but make two (I didn’t do the faces).

For the pod, to fit two peas:
R1: ch9, 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7 st, 2sc in end st, turn and sc in each st down other side (18)
R2-6: 2sc in first st, sc in each st until end of row, 2sc in last st, turn and sc in each st (you are adding 2 st to each row on the ends, and should end up with 36 st around). At the end of row 6, ch 3 and sl st in each ch for stem, then bind off.

And it should look something like this! Hope you like it!
